What is Surya Namaskara C?

Surya Namaskara C (sunrise salutation C) is a sequence of yoga poses performed in a particular order to build heat in the body. They are most often used as a warm-up sequence.

Each movement is coordinated with your breath: Inhale as you extend, and exhale as you bend. The poses included in a Sun Salutation make up a "vinyasa," which is the sequence of movements used between poses in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, and Power Yoga.

The poses for the C sun salutes are:

Urdhva Vriksasana (Urdhva- Upward) 

Uttanasana (Forward Fold)

Ardha Uttanasana (Ardha- Half, Half Forward Fold)

Lunge, Right Leg Back

Kumbhakasana (Plank)

Ashtanga Namaskara (Knees, Chest, Chin)

Bhujangasana (Cobra)

Adho Mukha Shvanasana (Adho- Downward, Downward Facing Dog)

Lunge, Right Leg Forward

Uttanasana (Forward Fold)

Urdhva Vriksasana (Urdhva- Upward) 

Samasthitih (Mountain Pose or Standing)

This is a nice and gentle way to warm up the body, build strength and prepare it for a full yoga practice. Repeat these a few times, and mix in your sun A's and B's to really boost your energy!
