Power Yoga For Posture Correction
If you're like me, you probably spend at least 8 hours a day in a chair, staring at a computer screen. Not to worry, it doesn't take me 40 hours a week to write my posts! Although if blogging and vlogging were my full time job, that would be amazing!! One day...
So back to work... I try to take as many breaks as I can, but all that sitting and staring does a number on my posture. By the end of the day I usually find that it's harder to sit straight and relax. My shoulders are usually rounded forward and I am leaning into my screen. Not good!
So for me, yoga is critical for my posture. And I also find that it helps reduce stress, not just because it's yoga, but because I try to always put an emphasis on chest openers. I try to undo all that rounding forward, and when I do it's like a weight has been lifted off my chest. The best feeling ever!
So what is perfect posture, and how can yoga help you get it?
Correct posture is ideally when your back is as straight as it can be. This will be slightly different for everyone, but basically to get here your chin is slightly lifted upwards, chest is forward, shoulders are rolled back and relaxed, stomach is drawn in and up, hips slightly tucked, and knees are soft. all that to say, your whole body is in a straight line.
And I have designed this power yoga flow to help open up your chest and get your body into alignment. I'll also be posting a video soon on some simple yoga moves you can do if you only have a few minutes to help you improve your posture. So watch this space!
Now, please don't expect to have perfect posture overnight, it will take a few weeks of a regular practice. And by regular practice, I mean 2-3 times a week. By moving through a yoga practice you will start to loosen up your muscles, and bring awareness to your body and posture.
Awareness is key, as it will help you find your way to correct posture. It will also help you notice when you're starting to slouch or your hunching over your computer.
So what are you waiting for??? Grab your workout gear and a mat and let's get started! Be sure to subscribe to my page and let me know what you think in the comments below!
